  1. Get on the Web now, using your connection to The Invention Factory, and
  2. Sprynet Mosaic!

  4. Requirements: 8 Mb RAM, Win95 or 3.1, TIF subscription with PPP access.

  6. 1. Copy SPRYNET.EXE to an empty, temporary folder or directory. (You can
  7.    delete the temporary folder after you have the program installed.)
  8.  
  9. 2. Run SPRYNET.EXE. (Note: there is lot of disk activity before you get
  10.    feedback that anything is happening.) When the Account Setup Wizard
  11.    offers to connect you online, you can select "Cancel".
  12.  
  13. 3. Run the Sprynet Dialer. (It has been installed to the Win95 Start
  14.    button, and to the Win 3.1 Program Manager.)
  15.  
  16. 4. From the menus, choose Modem / Port Setup.
  17.  
  18.    Enter your COM port (1-4) and speed (38400 usually works well).
  19.    Under "Advanced", choose data bits = 8 and parity = none.
  20.  
  21.    (You probably don't have to change the default "Hayes" modem, but if
  22.    you do, it's under Modem / Setup.)
  23.  
  24. 5. From the menus, choose Network / Dialer Setup.
  25.  
  26.    Enter the phone number you use to call TIF, including area code, "1",
  27.    and prefixes if necessary. (For 14.4 kbps, enter 1-212-274-8110.)
  28.    Enter the following information where requested:

  30.    Name Server 1:      199.183.47.130
  31.    Domain Name:        factory.com
  32.    Netmask:            255.255.255.192
  33.  
  34. 6. From the menus, choose Network / Login Setup.
  35.  
  36.    Under Login Method, choose Manual. (Later, you can go back and put in
  37.    an automated script.)
  38.  
  39. 7. Dial TIF (press Dial on the button bar). After connection, enter "2"
  40.    (PPP) for language, "N" for graphics, and your name and password as
  41.    requested. A few seconds later, you will get the message "Connected",
  42.    and the dialer will minimize.

  44. 8. Run Sprynet Mosaic. (It's the globe icon.) The default home page is
  45.    http://www.sprynet.com which you can change to any other page you
  46.    want. (My preferred home page is http://www.yahoo.com which has good
  47.    links to other pages and a decent search engine.)

  49. 9. When you're finished your session, exit Sprynet Mosaic, then exit the
  50.    Sprynet Dialer. The next time you run the dialer, you should be able 
  51.    to connect by pressing Dial on the button bar.
